I have been raised to live “America-minded” instead of “Kingdom-minded”. For 20+ years I have been taught either implicitly or explicitly the following principles:
America is great(est).
The Founding Fathers were right.
Every country should be given the chance to establish their version of the “American dream”.
Be proud to be an American.
To point out the faults of a “Conservative”, or worse, to agree with the viewpoint of a “Liberal” is unpatriotic.
The Revolutionary War was justified.
Some of these statements may be true or false. My inclination at the present is to elan towards the latter; but the point remains that my theology has developed into one where the United States of America has replaced what should be the heavenly kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Instead of striving to combat the foolishness of the liberal ideology with arguments of capitalism and free market and the original intent of the Constitution, I should instead be pointing out the flaws of the secular humanistic worldview and how the Biblical Christian worldview answers this world’s greatest questions so much better (best).
This world is not about political parties. It’s not about “Right” and “Left”, “Republican” and “Democrat”. It’s about Jesus and His Kingdom which will one day wipe this reality into a distant barely-hazy memory. It’s about redeeming this world for God’s glory. It’s about the bigger picture, the bigger story, and the biggest love.
